There she meets dancer Johnny Castle who’s trying to help his friend and dance partner, Penny. She has been left in the lurch, pregnant, by a waiter at the resort.
Baby takes it upon herself to help and borrows money from her father to help Penny get an abortion. Penny refuses the money as that would mean missing out on a dance performance and effectively the season’s salary. But, Baby convinces her by volunteering to dance with Johnny in her stead. What follows is a rollercoaster ride with her Dad finding out about her lie and barring her from meeting Johnny whom she has fallen in love with. The story is ahead of its time and handles topics like abortion and class difference well.
