Home Improvement Trends

If you’ve been looking at improving your home, you’ve come to the right place. It can seem like a huge task to take on and sometimes you might not know where to start, which is why we’ve put this article together outlining some of our favourite improvement trends. These should inspire you and help get your improvements started!

  1. Open plan

Open plan living has become a huge trend, popular in apartments and larger houses alike. The open-plan layout gives much more space than the standard splitting of rooms and allows for more flexibility on furniture placement too. The most common open-plan layouts are living rooms and kitchens, but we’re also seeing more kitchen and dining rooms too. While it isn’t always doable in all houses, especially if there are supporting walls involved, in new builds it’s being taken into account from the development stages and built this way.

2. Garden improvements

With the ways that everyday life has changed in the last year, almost all of us have missed being able to enjoy outside space. Because of that, we’ve seen a huge uproar in garden trends, with something that can work for everyone! For some, it’s taking care of a garden that they didn’t previously have the time or motivation to look after, or for others it’s making the most of the space that they took for granted previously.

A lot of homeowners are spending time revamping their gardens and adding in patio areas to be able to sit and enjoy the summer months – while this has been put on halt through the winter, we’re seeing people thinking ahead to the approaching spring and summer and wanting to have an enjoyable area ready when the time comes. Another added bonus of this is that spending time renovating your garden can help to raise your value, which is perfect if you’re making improvements to sell your house fast this year

3. Upcycling

More time at home has left a lot of us restless and in need of a project, and upcycling has been the perfect thing. Some people have chosen to renovate their own furniture that’s in need of some TLC, and some sourced old household items to be able to repaint. Old dressers, cabinets, and tables have been among the most common upcycles, and after a good sand and some coats of paint look like new!

This trend is great for someone looking to make improvements on a tighter budget, especially if you already have furniture that you want to update. If you’re not sure where to start, there’s heaps of inspiration online from sites like Pinterest to Facebook!

4. A new front door

This is one of our favourite trends, as the before and after comparisons are absolutely stunning! A lot of homeowners are choosing to get new front doors and are choosing some incredible styles and colours! Front doors are becoming a real statement before you enter a home, and this has meant that we’ve seen a huge change from a few years back. Some of the most popular coloured front doors include –

  • Bright yellow
  • Matte grey
  • Navy
  • Lilac
  • Post box red
  • Gloss black.

There are plenty of other colours that you can consider if you’re looking to replace your front door – it’s also worth knowing that you don’t have to replace the whole door, you can just repaint it! This is a great option for anyone who wants a change but isn’t in a position to pay for a replacement.

5. Minimalism

This trend tends to resurface in the spring, and this year is no different. It’s perfect for tidying away Christmas decorations and starting afresh. Minimalism is a perfect trend for those who don’t like clutter, as it means most things are out of sight. Think clean surfaces, open space, and only the things that you need!

This trend can be a hard one to balance as it can leave the place looking a little empty, but there are ways for you make it work for you. The rule of three is a perfect solution – a shelf, table, or any other surface should only have three things on it to provide that minimal effect without looking too bare.

6. Kitchen appliances

More and more kitchens are matching their appliances which makes for a stunning arrangement on the side, and as well as this we’re seeing more kitchens with gadgets they didn’t have previously. From bread makers to air fryers, you can recreate almost any of your favourite meals from the comfort of your kitchen.

There are all sorts of exciting trends that you can take into account when you redecorate this year. No matter your style, you can find something that works for you!
