4 Tips on Performing HVAC Maintenance to Reduce Allergens

Being an HVAC dealer means that you don’t just sell HVAC equipment, but that you perform installation, maintenance, and repair services. Adequate HVAC installation ensures that the entire system operates properly for a long time, which, in turn, means that you won’t have to perform many repairs of your customers’ HVAC units.

However, good installation is only one part of what makes HVAc systems last. Maintenance is just as important for maintaining maximum functioning capacity for as long as possible. But that’s not all you should offer your clients with your maintenance service.

You should go the extra mile and make sure your maintenance procedure focuses on providing your clients with a healthy HVAC system that will significantly reduce the amount of allergens present in their homes. Here’s how to do that.

If you want to ensure the homes of your customers are as free of allergens as possible, installing quality HVAC parts such as HEPA filters is essential. These filters will remove as much as 99.91% of contaminated particles the diameter of which is 0.3 microns. 

The other option is an air filter that has a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating. Only those filters with the MERV rating of 13 and higher are suitable for filtering allergens from your customers’ homes. They can remove 98% of contaminants.

2. Keep the units clean

Make sure you pay attention to thoroughly cleaning both the inside and the outside units of your customers’ HVAC system clean. Allergens tend to stick to surfaces, and you should definitely make sure you clean these surfaces well in order to make sure they are as allergen-free as possible.

3. Remove the mold

If your customer’s home is extremely humid, there is a possibility of mold growth. Mold spores are infamous for causing asthma symptoms and serious allergic reactions. Mold can grow in the coils, the drip pans, and especially in the ductwork, making it easy for mold spores to circulate through the home of your customer. 

Take the time to check for mold in your customers’ HVAC system when performing a routine maintenance procedure. Pay close attention to the hard-to-reach spots and remove any mold growth as thoroughly as you can.

4. Dehumidifier

 

Advise your customers to purchase a dehumidifier if you notice their home is suffering from severe humidity. While regular maintenance and procedures that you do to keep the HVAC system free of allergens are very helpful, a dehumidifier will help them reduce the growth of harmful allergens by reducing the humidity in their homes.
